FTLOA accepts project applications once each year from May through the end of June.  Applications submitted outside this window will not be reviewed.

Our goals are to work with our partners to build projects that meet the educational, public health, and wellbeing needs of partnering communities and to support and enhance the sustainability of our partner communities in Tanzania.

We have two funding streams:

  1. Kujenga Jamii (Community Building) — Most commonly supported. These are smaller, sustainable projects that strengthen community stability, such as vegetable gardens, general healthcare or sanitation support, or livestock initiatives.
  2. Infrastructure projects — Considered more rarely. These typically involve buildings related to education or health.

Because resources are limited, FTLOA prioritizes projects with budgets up to CAD 15K (28,500,000 TZS). Projects above this level are more likely to be considered only when additional funding sources have been clearly identified. As a result, infrastructure or other large‑scale projects are typically approved only on an exceptional basis.

FTLOA also places strong emphasis on project sustainability. Applications should demonstrate that the proposed project is self‑sustaining or can become self‑sustaining with support from the applicant’s own community within a short period.

To help communities assess eligibility, please review the following questions:

  • Project oversight skills — Does your community have people who can plan, administer, and oversee the project?
  • Capacity — Can your community support the project before, during, and after completion?
  • Sustainability — Can you show that the project will remain viable without ongoing support from FTLOA?
  • Community contributions — Can your community contribute volunteer labour, committee work, or financial support?
  • Funding sources — If your project exceeds CAD 15K (28,500,000 TZS), have you identified additional funding?

If your community can answer yes to all of these questions, please monitor the FTLOA website in May for the opening of the application window. When the window opens, you will be directed to the project application form.
